Russell and Orlando selected for US Men's National Futsal Camp
1/20/2020
Two members of the Sporting Maryland Men's Futsal Club have been called up to the US Men's National Futsal Team, who is looking to qualify for the 2020 Futsal World Cup this summer in Lithuania. The National Team is preparing to travel to Croatia in the upcoming weeks to play against some of the top European clubs to prepare themselves for the CONCACAF qualifying rounds which begin in late March.
Russell, has been a staple of the SMFC team and has been with the club for almost 20 years. He is a former College All-American who has also played overseas in France and Brazil as well as locally for MLS club D.C. United. When asked about this amazing experience Russell explained "It's something you always dream of, getting the chance to represent your country and I have been preparing for this day my whole life."
Orlando, has been a key player for Sporting Maryland over the past decade and his accomplishments on and off the field are truly astounding. Orlando has already participated in several National Team camps over the past few months and looks to play an important role for the team moving forward. Orlando spent several years playing in the NASL for the Carolina Railhawks, and two years playing in the MASL for the Baltimore Blast.
The camp, will be held in San Francisco, California and will feature 25 of the best Futsal players from all across the United States.
